You want to apply for a work permit or a residence permit to work as an employee or self-employed person in Sweden, or as an accompanying family member.
You want to apply for a work permit because you have found employment in Sweden. If your family will be accompanying you, they can apply at the same time.
You want to apply for a residence permit to run your own business in Sweden. If your family will be accompanying you, they can apply at the same time.
You are a family member of a person who has applied for or been granted a residence permit as an employee or self-employed person. You now want to apply for a residence permit to live with this person in Sweden.
You have a residence permit to study at a university or university college in Sweden, have gotten a job, and now want to apply for a work permit. Your family can apply at the same time as you.
You want to apply for an EU Blue Card because you have been offered highly qualified employment in Sweden. If your family will be accompanying you, they can apply at the same time.
You want to apply for an ICT permit, because you are employed by a business outside the EU/EEA and are now going to work for the business in Sweden. If your family will be accompanying you, they can apply at the same time.

You want to apply for a work permit to work as an artist, technician or other tour staff in Sweden. If your family will be accompanying you, they can apply at the same time.
From April 1, it will no longer be possible to make a so-called track change.
You want to apply for a work permit to work as a seafarer on board a Swedish ship in domestic traffic. If your family will be accompanying you, they can apply at the same time.
You have long-term resident status in another EU country and want to move to Sweden to work.

On 9 April, the Swedish Migration Agency will resume its residence and work permit activities in Pakistan. Applicants needing to submit biometric data, have their passport checked or be interviewed after submitting an application can once again do so at the embassy in Islamabad. This does not apply to those who are applying for a Schengen visa to visit Sweden for a short stay.

From 1 April, the possibility of changing tracks will end
On 1 April, the Swedish Parliament’s decision to remove the possibility of changing tracks will come into force. This affects those who have been granted, or applied for, a work permit after an asylum application has been rejected. Your co-applicant family members will also be affected.

Changes for those residing in Cyprus who wish to apply for residence and work permit
From 17 March 2025 the Swedish embassy in Nicosia will no longer handle migration matters. If you are a citizen of Cyprus, you should instead contact the Swedish embassy in Athens, Greece. The same applies for non-Cypriot legal residents of Cyprus.
