It is currently impossible to apply for an extended residence permit under the Temporary Protection Directive. The deadline for applications was 4 March 2025.
If your residence permit is valid until 4 March 2026, you will receive information before then about what you must do when your residence permit expires.
If you have not applied for an extension
If your residence permit has expired and you did not apply for an extended residence permit by 4 March, you must reapply for protection under the Temporary Protection Directive. Otherwise you are not allowed to remain in Sweden.
If you did not apply for extended protection in time, you are no longer entitled to accommodation and financial aid. You also do not have the right to work until you have received a new decision granting you a residence permit.
To re-apply, you can use the e-service that has been set up to handle applications for protection under the Temporary Protection Directive, or visit the Swedish Migration Agency.

If you have applied for an extension
If you submitted your application in the e-service no later than 4 March, you have applied on time, even if you have an appointment to be photographed and fingerprinted later. If you applied for extended protection in time and are still registered at a Swedish Migration Agency Unit for Reception, you retain your right to accommodation and financial aid while you wait for a new decision.
