Your application for a visitor’s residence permit has been approved. The information on this page applies to both those who have been granted a permit for the first time and those who have been granted an extended permit.

Once you have been granted a visitor’s residence permit, you will receive a residence permit card. This card is proof that you have permission to be in Sweden.

If you need a Schengen visa to enter Sweden

When the residence permit card is ready, the embassy or consulate-general will hand over or send it to you. Please note that once you have received the decision, it can take up to four weeks to produce and deliver the card to the embassy or consulate-general. When you travel into Sweden, you must present the card together with a valid passport.

If you do not need a Schengen visa to enter Sweden

If you come from a country from which you can travel to Sweden without an entry visa, you must be able to present a copy of the residence permit decision upon entering Sweden.

As soon as you have arrived in Sweden, you must book an appointment at the Swedish Migration Agency to provide fingerprints and be photographed. During this visit, you must also present your passport. Once your residence permit card is ready, it will be sent to your Swedish address.

Your residence permit card will be automatically sent to the address you provided in the application. The card will be sent to you within about a week of the decision.

Yes, in certain situations, the Swedish Migration Agency can revoke a permit. For example, this applies in these cases:

  • if you provided incorrect information in your application or did not tell us about something of significance to your residence permit
  • if the conditions for the residence permit are no longer met; for example, if you work without having the right to do so.
