If you do not know whether you have previously gained or lost Swedish citizenship, you can apply for a declaration of citizenship. For example, you can do this if you are unsure about any of the following:
- Did I become a Swedish citizen at birth?
- I was born abroad and have never lived in Sweden – have I lost my citizenship?
- I have acquired citizenship in another country – have I therefore lost my Swedish citizenship?
The declaration of citizenship will state whether or not you are a Swedish citizen.
Some people acquire automatic citizenship at birth
