You have received a decision Permanent residence permit

You have received a decision about your application for a permanent residence permit in Sweden.

If you have been granted a permanent residence permit, you have the right to live and work in Sweden for an unlimited period of time.

You need to be photographed and fingerprinted for your residence permit card. You must do this even if you have had a Swedish residence permit before, because this information is not saved. You can do this at one of the Swedish Migration Agency’s service centres.

If you have been granted a permanent residence permit, in most cases your closest family members can apply for a residence permit to live with you in Sweden.

Residence permit to live with someone in Sweden

When you have a permanent residence permit, you can travel in and out of the country. However, if you leave Sweden, you must have both a valid passport and your residence permit card to be able to return here. You can leave Sweden for up to a year and keep your residence permit. If you are going to be away for longer, you must notify the Swedish Migration Agency.

Travelling abroad with a permanent residence permit

Yes, the Swedish Migration Agency can revoke a permanent residence permit, for example if you are no longer resident in Sweden.

If your application for a permanent residence permit has been rejected but you have been granted a temporary residence permit, you can apply for a permanent residence permit the next time you apply for an extended permit.

If your application for an extended permit has also been rejected, you must prepare to leave the country.

The decision states what to do if you want to appeal.

You can read more about what happens after a rejection decision by selecting the permit you applied to extend at the same time as you applied for a permanent residence permit, on the page:
