You have received a decision Your application for residence status has been approved

You are a family member of a British citizen and your application for residence status or permanent residence status has been approved.

If you are in Sweden, the decision will be sent by post to your address in Sweden. If you are outside Sweden, you will receive the decision via a Swedish embassy or consulate-general.

If you granted someone power of attorney, the decision will be sent to that person, whether you are in Sweden or outside the country.

The card will be sent to your home address within about a week after it is ready.

If you plan to live in Sweden for at least one year, you must report your move to Sweden and get listed in the Swedish Population Register. It is the Swedish Tax Agency that decides whether you meet the conditions for being listed in the Swedish Population Register. Being listed in the Swedish Population Register means that you are registered as a resident of Sweden. Once you are listed in the Swedish Population Register, you will receive a personal identity number.

Yes, in certain situations the Swedish Migration Agency may decide to deregister (revoke) your residence status. This can happen, for example, in these cases:

  • if you provided incorrect information in your application or did not tell us about something of significance to your permit
  • if the conditions for the permit are no longer met, for example if the relationship that was the basis for your permit has ended or if you have moved from Sweden
  • if you have committed a crime that poses a threat to public order and security.

We have compiled information and links that may be useful for people who have recently moved to Sweden.
