Permits for family members of someone with long-term resident status in Sweden
Your family members do not automatically get long-term resident status just because you get it.
Requirements for family members to be granted long-term resident status in Sweden
The basic requirements for being granted long-term resident status in Sweden also apply to your family members. In order for your family members to be granted long-term resident status, they must meet the requirements for long-term resident status. This applies to every member of the family, including children. For example, this means that if you have a child under the age of five, they do not meet the requirements for long-term resident status. This is because your child has not been in Sweden for at least five years.

Family members who do not meet the requirements
If you have family members who do not meet the requirements and who want to live with you in Sweden, each of them must apply for a residence permit on the grounds that they are your close relative, and they must do this before their current permit expires. This is true regardless of which type of permit they have had in the past. In order for your family members to be granted residence permits on the grounds that they are your close relatives, you must fulfil a maintenance requirement. This means that you must be able to show that you can support yourself and your family and have a home that is big enough for all of you to live in.

If you do not apply for or are not granted long-term resident status in Sweden, your family members can continue to live with you in Sweden with the residence permit they already have as your close relatives. If that residence permit needs to be extended, the rules vary depending on the type of residence permit you have.
