Please note that everyone, including accompanying spouses/cohabiting partners or children, must submit their own application. The case of each person who applies for long-term resident status in Sweden will be examined individually.

What to submit with your application
- copies of your passport that show your personal details, signature, the period of validity of the passport, and whether you have permission to live in countries other than your country of origin (read more about what the copies must look like)
- documents that show how you support yourself and your family. For example, this can be shown through a certificate of employment and your most recent payslips, pension payments, bank statements, income information from the Swedish Tax Agency, or information about income from your own company
- documents that show the cost of your accommodation (e.g., rental agreement, purchase contract, and current information about your monthly costs tied to the accommodation, such as a rent notice or fee paid to a tenant-owner association and interest on a home loan)
- a copy of your bank statement or receipt showing that you have paid the application fee.
If we see that certain information is missing, or that we lack a document we need in order to make a decision, we may contact you to ask to supplement your application. If you do not submit the supplementary information we have asked for in time, we may make a decision on the basis of the information we have. If we need to ask you for supplementary information, it may take longer to process your application.
If your residence permit will soon expire
If you have a temporary residence permit that will soon expire and you do not meet the requirements for long-term resident status in Sweden, you should instead apply for an extended residence permit.
If you are uncertain whether you meet the requirements, you can choose to apply for both long-term resident status in Sweden and an extended residence permit at the same time. We will then examine both applications. Please note that you will need to pay the application fee for both applications.
If, on the other hand, you apply for an extended residence permit after your current residence permit has expired, this may affect your chances of being granted a new residence permit . It may also affect your right to work in Sweden. This is because the application for long-term resident status cannot be considered as an application for an extended residence permit.
If you change your mind and no longer wish to apply
If you wish to withdraw (revoke) your application, you must write a letter to the Swedish Migration Agency and inform us of this. The letter must include the following information: your name, date of birth, any personal identity number, and case number. Also provide your phone number and address so that the Swedish Migration Agency can reach you should there be any questions. Sign the letter with your signature. If you have given someone power of attorney, that person may withdraw your application on your behalf.
