The Swedish Migration Agency introduces new rules for checks of EC/EU residence permit cards
From 10 February, if you are a long-term resident of another EU country and are seeking a residence permit, you may need to present your EC/EU residence permit card.
If you have long-term resident status in another EU country and wish to apply for a residence permit to work, study or live on your own funds in Sweden, you must present your EC/EU residence permit card before the Swedish Migration Agency takes a decision. This means that you may need to visit the Swedish Migration Agency or an embassy/consulate-general in person to present the card. We will check your passport at the same time.
If you are applying for an extended residence permit and are using a card that you have presented before, you do not need to show it again.
We will contact you if we want to see your card
If the Swedish Migration Agency wants to see your EC/EU residence permit card, we will contact you with information about how to book an appointment to present your card. You should not send us your card.
