You have received a decision Your application has been approved – Swedish citizenship

Your application or notification to become a Swedish citizen has been approved.

Once you have become a Swedish citizen, you will receive a citizenship certificate. The Swedish Migration Agency informs the Swedish Tax Agency that you have become a Swedish citizen.

Your residence permit card is blocked

When you become a Swedish citizen, your residence permit card is automatically blocked, which means that you can no longer use it to show that you have the right to be in Sweden.

Swedish passport

Swedish citizens are not required to have a Swedish passport or ID card. If you need a Swedish passport, you can apply for one from the police.

When will the original documents I submitted be returned to me?

If you have submitted original documents to us, we will send them back to you within three weeks.

Can I lose my Swedish citizenship?

A Swedish citizen who is or has been a resident of Sweden cannot have their citizenship taken away.

Dual citizenship

If you have become a Swedish citizen and still have your previous citizenship, you have rights and obligations to that country as well.

Once you have been released from your Swedish citizenship, we will inform the Swedish Tax Agency that you are no longer a Swedish citizen. If you are going to continue living in Sweden, you will need a valid permit.
