If you plan to live in Sweden for at least one year, you must report your move to Sweden and get listed in the Swedish Population Register. It is the Swedish Tax Agency that decides whether you meet the conditions for being listed in the Swedish Population Register. Being listed in the Swedish Population Register means that you are registered as a resident of Sweden. Once you are listed in the Swedish Population Register, you will receive a personal identity number.

Yes, in certain situations, the Swedish Migration Agency can revoke a permit. This applies, for example, in these cases:

  • if you provided incorrect information in your application or did not tell us about something of significance to your residence permit
  • if the conditions for the permit are no longer met, for example if you have lost your job and lack your own means of financial maintenance. The same applies if the relationship that was the basis for your permit has ended or if you have moved from Sweden. If you have been granted a permit because you work in Sweden and are only temporarily unable to work due to illness or accident, or are involuntarily unemployed, your permit will not be revoked. Your involuntary unemployment must be confirmed by the Swedish Public Employment Service.

We have compiled information and links that may be useful for people who have recently moved to Sweden.
