If you have a residence permit in Sweden, you can travel in and out of the country for as long as your permit is valid. With your passport and residence permit card, you can enter Sweden and move freely within the Schengen area for 90 days within a 180-day period. However, you must notify the Swedish Migration Agency if you leave Sweden, so that we know whether you are in the country.
The Swedish Migration Agency will not revoke your residence permit if you move home to Ukraine or to another EU country. However, when you leave Sweden you lose your right to financial aid and accommodation. If you need to return to Sweden, you can apply for support again. We cannot guarantee that you will be offered accommodation in the same place where you previously lived.
If you want to move from Sweden
If you want to move from Sweden, you must notify the Swedish Migration Agency, for example by contacting your Unit for Reception. If you have been issued a coordination number or are listed in the Swedish Population Register, you must also notify the Swedish Tax Agency that you are leaving Sweden. If you have moved to an accommodation for which the municipality is responsible, you must notify the municipality that you are planning to move from Sweden.
The Swedish Migration Agency does not revoke your residence permit if you move from Sweden, but the support you receive from us in the form of accommodation and money will be discontinued when you leave Sweden.
If you have received a bank card from the Swedish Migration Agency, you must return it before moving from Sweden. If you move to another EU country and apply for a residence permit there, the Swedish Migration Agency will know and revoke your right to accommodation and financial aid in Sweden. Your bank card does not work outside of Sweden.
If you come back to Sweden while your residence permit is still valid, you can apply for financial aid and get help with accommodation again.
The Swedish Migration Agency cannot help you financially or practically with moving home to Ukraine.
