Embassies responsible for migration matters

In around 50 countries, Sweden has an embassy or a consulate-general that handles migration matters. You can go there if you live in the country/territory. If you live in another country/territory, you should instead contact a Swedish embassy or consulate-general in another location.

If you are a citizen of or live in a country/territory where there is a Swedish embassy or consulate-general that handles migration matters, you need to contact that embassy or consulate-general when you receive a request from the Swedish Migration Agency to

  • make an appointment for investigation
  • provide fingerprints and be photographed
  • show your passport for verification
  • collect a residence permit card.

If you live in a country/territory where there is no Swedish embassy or consulate-general, you should instead contact a Swedish embassy or consulate-general in another country/territory. Here you can found out which embassy or consulate general is responsible for your application.

Schengen visa

In many countries, Sweden has an agreement with an external service provider, VFS Global, which receives applications for Schengen visas. In some countries, you must submit your application to a Swedish embassy or consulate-general. In a number of countries, Sweden is represented by another Schengen country, and it is then that country’s embassy or consulate-general that receives and processes your application.
