Collaboration with the Swedish Social Insurance Agency yields results

In 2024, the number of notifications of suspected incorrect payments the Swedish Migration Agency made to other authorities increased significantly. This has saved the Swedish Social Insurance Agency and the Swedish Pensions Agency a great deal of money, as payments to people not entitled to benefits have been stopped or recovered.

The Swedish Migration Agency must take measures to counteract the abuse of rules, incorrect payments and benefit fraud. This includes internal work to counteract incorrect payments of Swedish Migration Agency benefits, as well as efforts to notify other authorities if suspicions arise of the incorrect payment of any of their benefits.

Statistics from the Swedish Social Insurance Agency show that both recovered and prevented incorrect payments increased between 2023 and 2024, thanks to an increased number of notifications from the Swedish Migration Agency. In 2024, the Swedish Social Insurance Agency recovered nearly SEK 5 million in incorrect payments. It also stopped future ones worth the same amount.

The number of notifications to the Swedish Pensions Agency has also increased in recent years, although the amount of recovered payments and stopped future incorrect payments did not increase in 2024.
