The Swedish Migration Agency's new website has now been launched

On 5 March, the Swedish Migration Agency launched a completely new version of migrationsverket.se, with a new structure and a more user-friendly navigation. The purpose of the new website is primarily to make it easier for visitors to find the information they need.

The Swedish Migration Agency’s website is primarily intended to provide information on how to apply for various permits to visit, work, study or move to Sweden. It is also this information that was mainly in focus when the new website took shape.

New structure and navigation for an easier overview

The biggest change with the new migrationsverket.se is a clearer information structure and a more guiding navigation. The new navigation was developed after interviews and tests with users, and its purpose is to make it easier for visitors to find the information that concerns them.

– We know that users on the old website easily became overloaded with information and had a hard time knowing what was relevant to them, right now. Therefore, a lot of work has been put into prioritising the content and refining the information on each page, says Linda Widmark, Director Communication Department at the Swedish Migration Agency.

On the new website, it will hopefully be easier for the user to find and understand the information, as they will receive the information they need in their current stage of the application process.

Being able to see the big picture from the start has been a common desire in interviews with users.

For example, a person who visits the website to make an application will now find all the information needed for this: requirements for the permit, preparations and a link to the correct e-service on one part of the website. Someone who instead is going to apply for an extended permit, will find that information on another part of the website.

– Most types of applications now also have a visual step-by-step overview of what the application process looks like, from start to finish. Being able to see the big picture from the start has been a common desire in interviews with users, says Linda Widmark.

Revised content, user-friendly and accessible

The visitors needs have been central also in the work of revising the content. All texts on the new website have been reviewed and most have been rewritten. The website should have a clear, simple and understandable language.

A new feature is word explanations directly on web pages. Since there are some words that can sometimes be difficult to understand, these words are now explained directly on the page as they are underlined and clickable. All word explanations are also gathered on a separate page.

By clicking on the word, the visitor immediately gets a short explanation.

The new website is designed to work better for mobile use, as the majority of those who visit migrationsverket.se do so via mobile devices.

Visitors' needs will continue to be in focus when it comes to continued development of the website.

– The work with our new website doesn't stop now that it's launched. We will continue to develop and refine the website continuously, so that it maintains a high quality, is user-friendly and accessible to our visitors, says Linda Widmark.

There may be disruptions as the new website goes live. We apologize for this.
