Changes for residents of Bulgaria applying for a Schengen visa
From January 2025 residents of Bulgaria can no longer apply for Schengen visas at the Embassy in Sofia.
Finland, that represents Sweden in issuing Schengen visas in Bulgaria, has terminated the representation agreement effective from 31 December 2024. This means that applications for Schengen visas cannot be submitted to the Embassy of Finland after this date.
Since Bulgaria now is part of the Schengen area, if you are a resident of Bulgaria and wish to apply for at Schengen visa from 1 January 2025, you can turn to one of the five existing Schengen hubs. The Schengen hubs are the following Embassies:
- Athens
- Berlin
