Apply for extended protection between January 29 and March 4
The e-service to apply for extended protection under the Temporary Protection Directive is now open.
The e-service to apply for extended protection under the Temporary Protection Directive is open between January 29 and March 4, 2025. If you want to remain in Sweden and your residence permit expires in 2025, you must apply for an extension of protection by March 4. This also applies to those who have been registered in the Swedish national population register.
One application per family
You can apply for yourself, up to two adult co-applicant family members, and up to ten children under the age of 18 for whom you are the parent/legal guardian. Children can only be co-applicants to their own parents/legal guardians. Children without a parent/legal guardian can use the e‑service themselves, and the guardian does not need to confirm the application.
Visit the Swedish Migration Agency after you apply
After applying, everyone must visit the Migration Agency to be photographed and fingerprinted for their new residence permit cards. It is possible to visit the Migration Agency from February 3. The time of the visit is booked in the e-service for the application. Once you have booked an appointment and submitted your application in the e-service, you have applied on time, even if your appointment is after March 4.
You can visit the Migration Agency to be photographed and leave fingerprints at these locations:
- Sundbyberg
- Sundsvall
- Flen
- Boden
- Skellefteå
- Umeå
- Uppsala
- Västerås
- Visby, the National Government Service Centre
- Göteborg
- Örebro
- Malmö

Please note that in Visby, the staff of the Swedish Migration Agency will receive you at the National Government Service Center. The address you should visit is stated in your booking confirmation.
If you have not yet been registered in the Swedish national population register and need financial help to travel to the Migration Agency, you can contact your unit for reception. You can book an appointment at any location you want, but you can only receive financial support for travel to the location closest to where you live.
