Visa-exempt workers can have their passports checked without visiting the Swedish embassy

At the end of May, the Swedish Migration Agency will be launching a pilot for digital passport check. The new e-service will make the application process easier for students and workers from 22 visa-exempt countries and territories.

Within a couple of days of receiving an online application for a work permit, the Migration Agency will send and offer of a digital passport check to those who fit into the pilot. The applicant then has seven days to download an app to scan their passport and share their digital passport data with the Swedish Migration Agency. The short response time is important in order not to delay processing of the application.

Representatives must forward the offer to the employee

The offer of a digital passport check is sent by email to whomever has submitted the application, but the passport details can only be shared by the employee and their co-applicant family members themselves. If you are a representative with a power of attorney to represent the employer and the applicant throughout the application process, you must forward the email offer to the employee as soon as possible. The control number of the online application in question is clearly stated in the email offer.
